Background
Overhead cranes at a nuclear power station play an essential role in day-to-day operations, maintenance and emergency procedures. In this highly regulated, safety critical environment, regular proof load testing is must.
When the station scheduled a proof load testing programme for several overhead cranes, minimising downtime was a primary concern. In a nuclear facility, any delay to planned operations carries a significant cost and operational implications. The testing needed to be carried out quickly, safely and with the minimum possible disruption to the wider site programme.
The Challenge
- Each crane to be tested at three load levels, SWL, 10% overload and 25% overload.
The Solution
- 25Te test weight hire package
Results
- All overhead cranes successfully tested at required loads.
Client feedback
“The modular nature of the test weights allowed us to configure loads quickly and safely, which was essential given the critical nature of the work. The interlocking design gave us complete confidence in a high-risk environment”
– Site engineering manager
Key takeaways
- 25Te Hire package with no cradle required.
- Three test load configurations achieved.
- Safe and quick reconfiguration between loads.
