Proof load test weights for construction sites and civil engineering projects.

5 Te Overhead crane test

Construction sites and civil engineering projects
use a wide variety of lifting equipment – tower cranes, mobile cranes, hoists, lifting frames and temporary structures.

Getting testing done quickly, safely and with the
right documentation is essential on a programme driven construction project where delays cost money.

We hire proof load test weights for construction and civil engineering projects anywhere in the UK and mainland Europe with configurations from 20kg to hundreds of tonnes.

Applications in construction and civil engineering

Our test weights are used for proof load testing a wide range of lifting equipment and structures on construction and civil engineering projects, including:

  • Bridge sections and structural steelwork
  • Tower cranes
  • Mobile and crawler cranes
  • Temporary lifting frames and gantries
  • Hoists and material handling equipment
  • Lifting beams and spreader beams
  • Structural components before installation
  • Temporary access platforms and working platforms

Working on live construction sites

Construction sites present particular challenges for test weight hire – access routes change as the project develops, ground conditions vary, and the programme pressure means testing needs to happen quickly and without complications. Our interlocking weight system is designed to work effectively in these conditions:

Straightforward delivery and positioning. The weights are delivered to site and can be positioned using the site crane or other available lifting equipment. The integral lift points and positive locking design make handling straightforward even in congested site conditions.

No lashing required. The positive locking design means there is no need for cargo lashing straps that take time to rig and can work loose. This speeds up the testing process and reduces the risk of an unsecured weight assembly on a busy site.

Precise load configuration. The load can be built up in 1te increments to match the exact test load required. For tower crane testing in particular, where the proof load is determined by the crane’s rated capacity and the applicable standard, precision matters.

Full inspection certification. Every hire includes inspection certificates for the weights. On a construction project where the principal contractor needs to maintain comprehensive records, having properly certified test weights is essential.
