Background
Following repair work, A mine in the UK needed to proof load test five overhead cranes to verify the structural integrity.
There was a limit on the dimensions and maximum weight of each test weight component along with stringent health and safety requirements relating to their lift points .

The Challenge
- Limited access & facilities to transport weights to the cranes.
- Efficient reconfiguration of weights between tests.
The Solution
- Utilising our 12.5Te SWL test weight cradle and our modular weights we could offer a compact solution that could be split down to simplify the logistics of moving it underground and simplify the reconfiguration of weights between tests.
- All our weights supplied with lift point inspection reports.
Results
- Our customer was so happy with our technical solution they increased the scope to include not only the hire of the weights but the generation of the RAMS and execution of the tests on site.
- All cranes were successfully tested under the supervision of one of our experienced technicians.
Client feedback
“First class service & exceptional documentation – many thanks”
– Compliance manager
Key takeaways
- Five overhead cranes all tested & inspected safely.
- Fast load reconfiguration between test points minimised crane downtime and disruption.
