Background
A vessel undergoing extensive repairs and modifications at a busy shipyard required full calibration of its main deck crane before returning to service. Following the yard work, accurate load testing across a range of capacities was essential to verify the crane’s performance and confirm safety systems were operating correctly.
The Challenge
- Achieving three separate test loads.
- Be able to reconfigure quickly and safely.
The Solution
- 140Te test weight hire package
- Detailed engineering drawings for the required loads and rigging.
Results
- Crane proof load tests & calibration completed within time scale.
Client feedback
“Utilising the modular test weights was perfect for our ships crane calibration. The flexibility to quickly and safely adjust the loads between 20Te, 80Te and 140Te using the same cradle and spreader beam arrangement saved us valuable time and ensured a smooth process amid the time alongside. The pre-provided drawings were spot on, and the equipment performed flawlessly”

Key takeaways
- A single hire package covered three test load configurations, Using the same cradle and spreader beam throughout.
- Pre-mobilisation drawings allowed the full test sequence to be planned and approved before equipment arrived on site.
- Modular interlocking system allowed for rapid reconfiguration between test loads without any additional equipment changes.
- Project completed on schedule with no disruption to the wide programme.
