Background
During a period of scheduled maintenance in a dry dock, a ship operator needed to carry out proof load test of two individual vessel davits before the ship returned to service. A precise proof load test of 27Te per davit was required to verify that the davits met the necessary safety and operational standards – a standard requirement for vessel safety equipment following a maintenance period.
With multiple maintenance activities running concurrently in the dry dock and a tight schedule to maintain, the method of load application was as important as the test itself. The chosen approach needed to be fast, clean and compatible with other work continuing alongside it.
The Challenge
- Concurrent activities, testing and painting
- Discharging of commonly used waterbags not possible due to other activities
- Tight maintenance schedule
The Solution
- 2x 27Te interlocking modular test weights
- Testing both davits simultaneously
Results
- All other dry dock activities continued without interruption
- Avoided delays to the schedule and the ship departed on time.
Client feedback
“Using the modular test weights was a gamechanger. Waterbags would have shut down half the dock – instead we ran the davit tests alongside all the other maintenance work with zero disruption. The team was impressed with how quick and clean the whole process was.”
– Technical Superintendent
Key takeaways
- 27Te davit proof load tests completed with zero disruption to other concurrent dry dock maintenance activities.
- Modular test weights eliminated the disruption associated with waterbags
- Quick delivery, assembly and removal.
- Ship’s dry dock schedule completed in time.
